Overdraft Services

First Credit Union

There are some important things to know when it comes to overdraft fees on your First Credit Union checking account.

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways:

  • Using standard overdraft practices that come with your account.
  • Overdraft protection plans, such as a line of credit or a link to a savings account

We authorize and pay overdrafts for the following transactions:

Type of Transaction Do We Authorize & Pay Overdrafts?*
Checks Yes
Online Bill Pay Yes
ACH Withdrawals Yes
ATM Transactions** No, unless you sign up for it (see below)
Non-recurring Debit Card Transactions** No, unless you sign up for it (see below)

*We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

**Effective August 15, 2010, we will be unable to pay your everyday ATM and debit card transactions unless you authorize us to do so.

Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • We will charge you a fee of $35 each time we pay an overdraft
  • There is no limit on the total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account

If you want us to authorize and pay overdrafts on ATM transactions and non-recurring debit card transactions, call 480-831-2645 or toll-free out of the Phoenix area 800-732-6986, download a form and present it at a branch or mail to: PO Box 22030, Tempe, AZ 85285-2030 or make your selection below and submit the online form.

Overdraft Protection

First Credit Union provides overdraft protection that allows you to link an account to your First Credit Union checking account. In the event your checking account is overdrawn, funds will automatically be transferred from your designated overdraft protection account(s). First Credit Union savings, money market and line of credit accounts can be used for overdraft protection.

Enrolling in Overdraft Protection is quick and easy. There is no annual fee and it works for ATM, ACH, debit, automatic and check transactions. Call or visit any branch and request overdraft protection for your checking account.
