First Credit Union Awards College Scholarships to Arizona Students

Chandler, AZ –First Credit Union recently selected their 2012 “Imagine the Possibilities” Scholars. For the first time since the scholarship program was introduced in August 2008, the credit union awarded two additional scholarships for a total of seven. Credit union scholarship committee members believed this year’s applications to be of such high quality, they opted to award seven scholarships rather than five for a total of $3,500. The “Imagine the Possibilities” college scholarship is available to First Credit Union youth members who are high school seniors planning to enroll in a full-time course of study at any Arizona college, university or vocational school. Each recipient receives a $500 scholarship.

“The need for financial help for college continues to grow and our members’ scholarship application get better and better each year. It’s become increasingly difficult to choose just five scholars. Encouraging our youth to continue their education and attend college is so important. We believe awarding these scholarships and more than in past years is helping do just that,” said Desiree Hoogerhuis, community outreach coordinator for First Credit Union.

The 2012 “Imagine the Possibilities” college scholarship recipients are seven outstanding high school seniors who displayed remarkable academic achievement, extra-curricular participation and community service and they are:

  • Brenna Norwil from Hamilton Preparatory High School in Chandler plans to major in Communications or Business at either Arizona State University or Grand Canyon University
